Long dogs I’ve loved.

A few of the wonderful guests who’ve stayed with me, long dogs and short ones alike. Every one comes home happy, tired, and a little spoiled, and I treat each like my own.

Pablo

Pablo is practically staff at this point. He is my most frequent visitor, knows the house better than I do, and takes it upon himself to keep the long dogs in line. Part greeter, part supervisor, he settles the new arrivals, calls off the zoomies before they get out of hand, and does a final bed check every night. Whenever Pablo is here, the whole crew runs a little smoother.

“I started calling Pablo the keeper of the long dogs because that is exactly what he is. He looks after the younger ones, shows them the ropes, and has a way of making every dog in the house feel at ease. I am always glad when he is booked in.”

Louise

Louise is a firecracker, about ten pounds of pure love and excitement. She loves nothing more than tearing around the yard with the other dogs, then curling up like she owns the place. I’ve known her since she was a puppy, and she’s been coming back ever since. At this point, she treats my place like her second house.

Buddy

Buddy is living proof this house was never just for Dachshunds. He’s a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and about the most laid-back little guy you’ll meet, with no quirks to speak of beyond a deep love of lazing around and sleeping the day away. Calm, gentle, and easy to love, exactly the kind of small dog who’s always welcome here.

“Buddy is the gentlest houseguest a person could ask for. He found a sunny spot on day one and melted right in, and a calm, sweet Cavalier like him is welcome here any time.”

Milo

Here’s a fun fact: Milo shares the same mom and dad as Fig (the two were littermates), and he and Susie share a dad, too. Milo is a complete diva. He adores his toys and avoids the rain and a muddy paw at all costs. His idea of a perfect day is a good meal followed by serious couch-potato time with his favorite toy.

“Milo keeps me laughing. He’ll do anything to stay clean and dry, then melt into the couch with his favorite toy like the little prince he is. Having a piece of Fig’s family here makes every one of his stays feel extra special.”

Draco

Ah yes, the famous Draco, the one and only Pomsky in the bunch. He’s quite the character, as you can probably tell, and I’m completely convinced he’s a human hiding in a dog’s body. He holiday-stays with me a few times a year and somehow runs the whole place within an hour of arriving.

Tito

Tito is a complete love bug. He grew up alongside an older brother, Willy (a Dachshund too), who taught him plenty, not least the big, generous love he shares with everyone he meets. And like any good little brother, Tito loves to pretend he rules the house.

“Tito wins everyone over the moment he walks in. He carries all the warmth Willy taught him, and that big-little-brother confidence makes me smile every single visit. He may think he runs the place, and honestly, I let him.”

Milly

I’ve known Milly since she was a puppy, too. She’s famous around here for her wild, crazy hair and her endless love of chasing tennis balls. When the playing’s done, all she wants is to be close to you, usually while claiming most of the couch for herself.

“Watching Milly grow up has been such a treat. That crazy hair and those happy tennis-ball sprints are pure joy, and there’s nothing sweeter than the moment she finally flops down beside you to take over the couch. She’s one of a kind.”
